As part of an academic collaboration with Kapro, an Israeli brand of levels and construction sites' equipment, I was asked to design the new shell of the rotary laser level.
The product is designed for construction sites, an environment full of heavy tools, machines, dirt, and alternating weather conditions. A rotary laser level is an accurate tool, that keeps fragile and gentle components within.
To design a robust, durable shell, I was inspired by the armadillo – which protects its body quickly and fully once it feels danger.
Ideation
How to oeprate?
Push down the handle (until you hear the 'click!'); The level opens and starts rotating.
To reach the horizontal mode, simply tip the level’s side-edge, and connect it to the tripod.
